Education is the driving force for the prosperity of a nation and modern times are based on knowledge, education, and technology which are inspired by ancient knowledge systems. But such continued impartation of knowledge was stalled. Hyderabad Karnataka region was home to unique philosophical movements, egalitarian social values, culture, and charm. These were stunted by the rule of the Nizams of Hyderabad, under whom the region lost its luster. Of all the losses, the educational loss was a historical brunt left behind. Consequently, the region lagged behind in the educational field at the time of Indian Independence.
The region is called Hyderabad Karnataka because it was a part of the
Hyderabad Kingdom of the Nizam. The Nizams who ruled this area
for many centuries are famous for their authoritative and malevolent
rule. The welfare of their subjects was an aspect that never occurred
in their red-blooded minds and education was the last of all. In all five
districts of Hyderabad Karnataka combined, there were only 3 high schools and a few primary schools with no colleges of any sort before the Independence of India.
In such times of the draught of empathy, knowledge, and aspiration,
came the man of the hour, the savior, who converted this desert of
education into a Garden of Eden with science, technology, education,
and knowledge. Sri Mahadevappa Rampure, the Madan Mohan Malvia
of this backward region, the founder President of H.K.E Society and a
great educationist, laid the foundations of H.K.E Society in 1958. In a
short span of 15 years, he had established dozens of colleges.
Hyderabad Karnataka Education Society, now has more than 50
colleges in its fold, including; Engineering, Medical, law, Dental,
pharmaceutical Degree colleges, Nursing various high schools and
Polytechniques. Unfortunately, Mahadevappa Rampure died in 1973 at
the young age of only 52, but his dreams of nonprofit and philanthropic education society continues to give high-quality education at a reasonable and affordable fees.
In 1989, the Mahadevappa Rampure Medical College celebrated its
silver jubilee, and the attached Basaveshwar Teaching and General
Hospital’s opening ceremony had happened in the same remarkable
year. The then Prime Minister of India, Sri Rajiv Gandhi, inaugurated
the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the society and the Basaveshwar
teaching and general Hospital. He praised the contribution of the
H.K.E. Society towards the nation and wished for a great future for
the society. The then President of the society, Dr. B.G.Jawali
welcomed the guests of honor.
The 50th year of H.K.E Society was celebrated in the year
2008. The golden jubilee celebration was inaugurated by Smt.
Pratibha Patil, the then President of India, the then Governor of
Karnataka, Sri.Rameshwar Thakur. The occasion was graced by the
then Chief Minister of Karnataka, Sri B.S.Yeddyurappa, and the then
president of H.K.E Society Sri Basavaraj Bhimalli organized the
memorable event and presented the mementos.
The Society stands like the iron pillar by the ardent presidents of the
past and holds more strength under the present President of the
Society Sri. Shashil G. Namoshi, MLC, under the new management
the society is scaling new heights, and more schools, colleges, and
Institutions are being added to its wings.
